Sabil-kuttab of Shaykh Murshid is an Ottoman-era sabil-kuttab located in the historic Islamic quarter of Cairo, representing the common charitable architecture of the 18th and 19th centuries.
The layout features a ground-floor sabil niche for delivering water and an upper kuttab used as a small Qur’anic classroom. Exterior ornamentation often includes carved stone, inscription panels and wooden window screens that identify the donor and date. The building’s small scale makes it primarily a streetscape element rather than a large standalone monument.
Originally founded as a waqf by a private patron to provide charity and education, the sabil-kuttab typology served neighbourhood needs for generations and some examples have been stabilized through restoration.
It is situated in al-Gamaleya within Historic Cairo, in proximity to al-Muizz Street and the traditional bazaars of the city center.
