About Sabah Museum

Sabah Museum is the principal state museum located in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. The museum complex includes indoor galleries and an on-site open-air Heritage Village showcasing traditional architecture and cultural objects.

Permanent galleries cover Sabah’s ethnography, archaeology, natural history and Islamic civilisation, and the museum hosts temporary exhibitions and educational programmes. The Heritage Village contains relocated traditional houses and craft demonstrations that illustrate the cultural diversity of Sabah’s indigenous communities.

The museum was established to collect, preserve and present the material culture and natural history of Sabah and continues to serve as the state’s main cultural institution. It also operates research and conservation activities related to local heritage.

The complex sits on a hill to the south of Kota Kinabalu city centre and is accessible by road from the city. It is a short drive from major hotels and the central business district.
