Saba (island)

Saba is a small Caribbean island and special municipality of the Netherlands located in the northeastern Caribbean Sea. The island is volcanic, largely rugged and noted for its steep terrain and compact settlement pattern.

Outdoor activities focus on hiking, diving and nature observation, with a prominent trail that leads to Mount Scenery, the island’s summit at about 887 metres and the highest point in the Dutch Kingdom. Scuba diving around Saba’s fringing reefs and pinnacles is a major visitor draw because of the quality of marine life and underwater topography.

Saba has been administered as a special municipality of the Netherlands since 2010, with local towns concentrated on gentle slopes and limited flat land. Access is via a short-runway airport for small aircraft and by sea from neighbouring islands.
