Visitors see exposed earthworks, foundation remains and a small museum that displays finds from excavations; the site preserves traces of wooden and earthen fortifications rather than large standing stone architecture. Walkways and interpretive panels explain the layout of the former settlement and its archaeological phases.
Archaeological evidence dates occupation of the site to the early medieval period; in local tradition it is linked to the Varangian leader Rurik and the formative era of Novgorod.
