Runde

Runde is an island off the coast of Møre og Romsdal in western Norway known for its large seabird colonies and coastal cliffs. The island’s bird populations and coastal scenery make it an important nature destination in the region.

Runde has a long history of fishing and small-scale coastal settlement; in recent decades its conservation value has grown and it has been designated an important area for seabird protection. Local conservation efforts and tourism have focused on balancing visitor access with protection of breeding sites.

Runde lies off Norway’s west coast in Herøy municipality, Møre og Romsdal, connected to neighbouring islands and the mainland via local roads and bridges. The island’s low, rocky topography and exposed cliffs sit directly on the Norwegian Sea.

• Bird cliffs (seabird colony): The bird cliffs on the island's western and northern coasts concentrate nesting seabirds such as Atlantic puffin, razorbill and guillemot and provide accessible viewpoints and guided-walk routes for birdwatchers.
• Runde Environmental Centre: Runde Environmental Centre offers exhibitions on the island's wildlife and arranges guided birding trips and boat tours; it also provides information on local walking trails and access points.
