How to Get to Rui’an
Rui'an is best reached via Wenzhou Longwan International Airport (WNH) or by rail via Rui'an Railway Station. Wenzhou is the regional transport hub - many flights and long-distance trains stop there, and frequent local trains or coaches link Wenzhou with Rui'an.
Wenzhou Longwan International Airport (WNH): Wenzhou Longwan is the closest airport serving Rui’an (about 35-50 km depending on route). From the airport you can take an airport shuttle/coach toward Rui’an or Wenzhou city; expect roughly 30-50 CNY and about 60-90 minutes to reach Rui’an by coach. A taxi or ride-hail (DiDi) from Longwan to Rui’an typically costs in the order of 120-220 CNY and takes around 40-70 minutes depending on traffic.
Ningbo Lishe International Airport (NGB): Ningbo is a viable alternative if you find better international connections. From Lishe, take a short taxi or bus to Ningbo Railway Station (taxi ~25-50 CNY, 15-30 minutes) and then a high-speed train to Rui’an (see train card); total journey time (airport → rail transfer → train) is commonly 1.5-3 hours and total cost typically 100-250 CNY depending on train class and transfer choices.
Train: Rui’an is served by Rui’an Railway Station (瑞安站) on regional high-speed/intercity routes; nearby hubs include Wenzhou South (温州南) and Wenzhou Railway Station (温州站). Frequent CRH/G-series trains connect Rui’an with Wenzhou, Ningbo and farther afield (Shanghai) - short regional fares are typically modest (tens of CNY) while longer trips (to Ningbo, Shanghai) rise into double- or low triple-digit CNY ranges; travel times: Rui’an↔Wenzhou generally under an hour, Rui’an↔Ningbo around 1-2 hours depending on service.
Bus: Rui’an has a long-distance coach station (瑞安客运站) with frequent services to Wenzhou, Taizhou, Ningbo and other coastal cities. Coaches are often cheaper than trains for some routes - expect Wenzhou trips around 20-50 CNY and longer journeys proportionally more; travel times vary with distance and traffic but are comparable to trains on some corridors.
How to Get Around Rui’an
Rui'an is easiest to navigate by a mix of rail for regional hops and taxis/DiDi for door-to-door local travel. Local buses and bike-share are cheap options for short distances, while walking works well in the compact town centre.
- High-speed rail (CRH/G-series) (15-250 CNY) - High-speed trains are the smartest choice for regional travel: fast, frequent and comfortable. Rui'an Railway Station handles intercity services to Wenzhou, Ningbo and beyond; seats are reservable online or at stations. Tickets vary by distance and class - second-class on short regional runs is economical and saves time compared with road travel.
- Intercity & long-distance buses (20-120 CNY) - Long-distance coaches run from Rui'an's coach stations to Wenzhou, Taizhou, Ningbo and many county towns. Buses can be cheaper than trains, and night buses are common for longer trips, but traffic and comfort vary. Buy tickets at the station or via regional apps; keep a little extra time for boarding and traffic.
- City buses (1-6 CNY) - Local buses cover Rui'an's districts and nearby towns at low cost and are useful for short hops if you understand the routes. Buses typically use a flat or distance-based fare (payable by cash or local transit card). Timetables can be sparse on some suburban routes, so check times if you have tight connections.
- Taxis & ride-hailing (DiDi) (10-220 CNY) - Taxis and DiDi are the most convenient way to reach specific addresses, especially with luggage or late arrivals. Short urban rides are inexpensive; longer trips (to/from Wenzhou Airport or neighbouring cities) add up but are door-to-door and often quicker than waiting for buses. Use DiDi for upfront pricing and easier payments if you have a Chinese mobile number or account.
- Bike-share & electric bikes (1-2 CNY per 30 min) - Shared bikes and e-bikes (HelloBike / local operators) are widespread for short trips around town and are cheap and flexible. They're ideal for last-mile travel and exploring market streets where parking is tricky. Helmets aren't always provided, so ride cautiously and park in designated areas.
- Walking - Walking is practical in central Rui'an - the town centre, markets and riverside areas are compact and pleasant on foot. Use walking for short sightseeing trips and to connect between bus stops, shops and restaurants; good shoes are useful on uneven pavements and market lanes.

Nightlife in Rui’an #
Rui’an (Ruian) is an industrial city where evenings mean karaoke (KTV), local bars and hotel lounges clustered around main commercial streets. The nightlife is familiar to many mid-sized Chinese cities: social KTV sessions, late-night hotpot and small pubs rather than international-style clubs.
Practical tips: QR payments and mobile apps are commonly used; carry your phone for payments and translating menus. Karaoke venues often accept walk-ins, but weekends fill fast. Keep to well-lit areas and use reputable taxis late at night.
