By Air

Wenzhou Longwan International Airport (WNZ): Direct airport coaches and intercity coaches run from Wenzhou Longwan to Lishui; expect roughly ¥70-90 and about 2-2.5 hours depending on traffic. An alternative is to take a taxi or airport shuttle into Wenzhou Railway Station (taxi ~¥30-50, 30-40 minutes) and catch a high-speed train to Lishui (about 1-1.5 hours, ¥40-80 for 2nd class).

Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport (HGH): Hangzhou is a major hub with frequent high-speed trains to the Lishui area. From the airport take the Metro/airport shuttle or a taxi to Hangzhou East Railway Station (taxi ~¥80-120, ~30-45 minutes) then a high-speed train to Lishui (typically ~2-2.5 hours, ¥90-160 2nd class). Long-distance coaches from Hangzhou to Lishui are also available (around ¥80-130, ~3.5-4.5 hours).

By Train & Bus

Train: Lishui is served by intercity and high-speed services at stations commonly referred to in English as Lishui Railway Station and Lishui South Railway Station. Typical journeys: Hangzhou ⇄ Lishui by high-speed train ~2-2.5 hours (¥90-160 2nd class); Wenzhou ⇄ Lishui about 1-1.5 hours (¥40-80). Book tickets via China Railway or major Chinese apps; arrive 20-30 minutes before departure.

Bus: Lishui’s long-distance coach stations connect the city with nearby prefectural centers (Wenzhou, Jinhua, Quzhou) and provincial hubs. Fares vary by distance-common routes to Wenzhou are roughly ¥60-100 (2-3 hours) and to Hangzhou about ¥80-130 (3.5-4.5 hours). Coaches are frequent and often the most flexible option for destinations not directly served by high-speed rail.

How to Get Around Lishui#

Lishui is easiest to navigate by a mix of high-speed train for intercity travel and taxis or Didi for local convenience. City buses are very cheap but slower; for short sightseeing trips, walking and shared bikes work well.

  • High-speed rail (G/D trains) (¥40-160) - High-speed trains are the most reliable way to reach and leave Lishui from Zhejiang’s larger cities. Services call at Lishui South and the older Lishui station on regional lines; journey times to Hangzhou and Wenzhou vary from about 1-2.5 hours depending on origin. Tickets are best bought in advance during holidays-2nd-class seats are the common choice for value.
  • Intercity & long-distance coach (¥30-130) - Coaches connect Lishui with nearby towns and cities not directly served by rail. They depart from the main long-distance bus station and are generally inexpensive and frequent; expect variable standards of comfort. Use coaches for direct routes to smaller towns or when schedules don’t match the trains.
  • City buses (¥1-3) - Lishui’s municipal buses cover most urban districts and are the cheapest way to get around. Fares are typically a low flat rate (often ¥1-3 depending on route), and buses run on fixed timetables with limited English signage. Carry small change or use local mobile payment (Alipay/WeChat) where accepted.
  • Taxi / Didi (ride-hailing) (¥8-60) - Taxis and Didi are widely available and the most convenient door-to-door option, especially if you have luggage or are heading to mountain areas around Lishui. Expect a typical short trip inside the city to start around ¥8-15 with per-kilometre charges thereafter; airport or long suburban transfers will be more. Didi can be slightly cheaper and is handy when taxi drivers are scarce.
  • Bicycle / shared bike (¥0.5-2) - Shared bikes are common around the city center and are useful for short trips or exploring the old town and riverside areas. Costs are low (often ¥0.5-2 per half hour) and apps make unlocking straightforward; watch for hilly streets if you’re not used to gradients. Bikes are best for quick hops rather than long cross-city journeys.
  • Walking - Many of Lishui’s points of interest-old streets, markets and riverside promenades-are compact and pleasant on foot. Walking is often the quickest way to explore local neighborhoods and discover small shops and eateries. Wear comfortable shoes and be mindful of steep lanes around the historic quarters.
