Rossio railway station

Rossio railway station sits on Rossio Square in central Lisbon and is one of the city’s historic rail termini. It is notable for its decorative Neo-Manueline-style facade facing the square.

The station provides commuter and regional services west of Lisbon, including trains on the line to Sintra, and its platforms are reached through twin arched portals and an approach tunnel. The facade and square-level entrance hall are popular photographic subjects and the station remains an active transport hub in the city center.

The current station building dates to the late 19th century and was constructed to serve expanding suburban rail services around Lisbon. Its architectural treatment echoes Portugal’s Manueline decorative tradition while functioning as a modern rail terminus at the time of construction.

Located in the Baixa/Rossio area of central Lisbon, the station opens directly onto Rossio Square, a short walk from the Praça da Figueira and the historic Rua Augusta pedestrian thoroughfare.
