Roslin Castle is a largely ruined medieval stronghold overlooking the North Esk valley near the village of Roslin in Midlothian, Scotland. The castle dates principally to the 14th century and served as a seat for the Sinclair family.
Visitors see substantial masonry remains including portions of the curtain wall and surviving tower structures that illustrate medieval defensive design. The castle sits on a promontory above the river and provides views down the wooded Roslin Glen.
Originally constructed and developed by the Sinclair family in the medieval period, the castle was damaged and altered in later conflicts and periods of neglect, leaving it in its present ruined form. It has been subject to conservation and stabilisation in recent decades to preserve the surviving fabric.
