Rondslottet

Rondslottet is the highest mountain in the Rondane range and Rondane National Park in Innlandet county, Norway, with an elevation of 2,178 metres. It is a principal peak in one of Norway’s oldest national parks.

Hikers and mountaineers come for marked trails and summer alpine routes that lead to the summit, offering panoramic views across the plateau and neighbouring peaks. The mountain sits within a protected landscape of high plateaus, ridges and reindeer habitat.

Rondane was set aside for protection in the early 20th century and later designated a national park; Rondslottet has long been a landmark for local travel and mountaineering in the region. Routes up the mountain form part of established trekking networks in Rondane.

Rondslottet stands within Rondane National Park in Innlandet, eastern Norway, on the high mountain plateau roughly between the valleys leading to Otta and Lillehammer; nearest access points are from mountain lodges and trailheads in the park.

• Plan climbs in the main summer window (July-September) for largely snow-free trails and the most stable weather for reaching Rondslottet's summit.

• Start very early to avoid afternoon winds and to give yourself margin for alpine conditions; the ridge and summit offer wide panoramas that are best appreciated with time to spare.
