The Roman Amphitheatre of Cagliari is a partly excavated Roman entertainment structure located in the Castello quarter of Cagliari, Sardinia, dating to the Roman Imperial era. It was cut into the tuff of the hill and served as a venue for public spectacles.
Surviving features include sections of the cavea (audience seating), the arena area and traces of access corridors and vaulted service spaces. The scale is modest compared with the largest Roman amphitheatres, reflecting the city’s provincial status in antiquity.
The amphitheatre was used during the Roman period and later quarried for building material in the Middle Ages, which reduced some of the above-ground superstructure. Excavations and conservation work have exposed and stabilised the principal archaeological elements.
The site lies in the historic Castello district of Cagliari, within walking distance of the city centre and other archaeological remains in the hilltop quarter.
