Rodopi Mountain Range National Park National Park

Rodopi Mountain Range National Park protects part of the Rhodope (Rodopi) Mountains in northeastern Greece, within the administrative region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace.

The protected area covers montane forests, river valleys and mountain plateaus that support a range of native flora and fauna and provide opportunities for hiking and nature-based recreation. The park lies within the transboundary Rhodope massif that stretches toward Bulgaria and is one of the larger mountain landscapes in the area.

Management focuses on conserving forested slopes, river corridors and traditional mountain settlements while allowing low-impact outdoor activities.

Geographically the park sits in the northeastern part of mainland Greece in the Rhodope Mountains, a short distance from the Greece-Bulgaria border and accessible from towns in the Eastern Macedonia and Thrace region.

Regional roads connect the Rodopi range to towns such as Komotini and Xanthi. For independent visitors, renting a car from Kavala or Alexandroupoli and driving inland provides flexibility; local buses serve some foothill villages but schedules are sparse.

• Visit small villages along the foothills to hear local Rhodope music traditions-gaida (bagpipes) and unique polyphonic songs survive here.
• Bring a topographic map if hiking; many trails are informal and signage is inconsistent.
• Aim for late spring or early autumn for comfortable hiking and fewer ticks in lower elevations.
