The Rock Garden of Chandigarh is a large open-air sculpture park in Chandigarh, India, created by Nek Chand from reused and recycled materials. It occupies irregular terraces and courtyards and is one of the city’s most visited cultural attractions.

The park contains thousands of sculptures and mosaics made from ceramic, stone and industrial waste arranged across roughly 40 acres; its scale and use of found materials are defining characteristics. The layout links a series of themed courtyards, waterfalls and paved terraces.

The garden was constructed clandestinely beginning in 1957 and later regularized and opened to the public; it remains a key example of outsider art turned civic landmark.

It sits near Sukhna Lake within Chandigarh’s city area and is accessible from the city centre.

The Rock Garden of Chandigarh (Nek Chand) is located adjacent to Sukhna Lake in Sector 1 of Chandigarh. From Chandigarh Junction railway station or the main bus stands (Sector 17) it is best reached by taxi, auto‑rickshaw or city bus; the drive is a short trip within the city (typically 10-20 minutes depending on traffic).

There is pedestrian access from the Sukhna Lake area, so once you reach the lakefront or the nearby parking/stop the garden entrance is a short walk.

• Visit early in the morning on weekdays to see the Rock Garden with fewer visitors and to get closer views of Nek Chand's densely packed sculptures and installations.
• Look for smaller, tucked-away courtyards and interior rooms where Chand reused local materials-these detailed assemblages are easily missed on a quick circuit.
