Riga Cathedral (the Dome) is a medieval cathedral in Riga’s Old Town founded in 1211 and long important to the city’s religious and musical life. It is one of the largest medieval churches in the Baltic region and houses a well-known historic pipe organ.

• Cathedral tower: The cathedral tower and roofline that form a dominant feature of Riga’s Old Town skyline and provide views over Dome Square and the surrounding medieval streets.

Riga Cathedral (Rīgas Doms) sits in Dome Square in the Old Town. It is about 1 km (10-15 minutes on foot) from Riga Central Station; many city buses and trams serve stops on the nearby boulevards, so you can also ride to a stop close to the Old Town and walk a few minutes to the cathedral.

• Go early on a weekday to see Riga Cathedral's interior with far fewer tourists and to buy the separate tower-ticket for panoramic Old Town views before access fills up.
• Check tower opening hours on the cathedral's information board on arrival - the tower has restricted hours and may be closed during services or concerts, so confirm before planning that climb.
• Allow time to study the cathedral's medieval and Baroque details (stained glass, tombstones and the organ) near the nave; these interior artworks are easy to miss if you only view the exterior on Dome Square.
