How to Get to Ricadi#
Ricadi (near Tropea) is served via Lamezia Terme airport with onward regional train or bus to Tropea/Vibo-Pizzo and a short final transfer. The coastal railway and local buses serve the area with more options in summer.
Lamezia Terme Airport (SUF): Lamezia is the main international airport for Calabria and the most convenient for Ricadi/Tropea. From SUF take the airport shuttle or train from Lamezia Centrale to Vibo-Pizzo or Tropea (about 40-60 minutes by train to Tropea), then a short taxi or local bus to Ricadi (10-20 minutes). Train fares on regional services are modest (a few euros).
Reggio Calabria Airport (REG): Reggio Calabria is farther south; transfers to Ricadi are longer (often 1.5-2+ hours by road). It’s an option if your routing makes it sensible, but Lamezia is generally quicker.
Train: Trenitalia regional trains run along the Tyrrhenian coast; the nearest useful stations for Ricadi are Tropea and Vibo-Pizzo. From those stations take a short taxi or local bus to reach Ricadi.
Bus: Regional buses and local carriers link towns along the coast; schedules are seasonal with more services in summer. Fares for short regional hops are low; check local operators for up-to-date timetables.
How to Get Around Ricadi#
Use Lamezia Terme as your air gateway; regional Trenitalia trains to Tropea or Vibo-Pizzo plus a short bus/taxi leg reach Ricadi. Renting a car gives the most flexibility, especially outside peak season.
- Regional trains (Trenitalia) (€2-10 typical regional fares) - Trains to Tropea and Vibo-Pizzo from Lamezia Centrale are the standard public option; from those stations take a taxi or local bus to Ricadi. Book long-distance legs in advance during high season.
- Local buses (€1.50-5) - Local bus companies connect Ricadi with Tropea, Vibo Valentia and other coastal towns. Services are most frequent in summer; expect limited evening services off-season. Buy tickets at kiosks or from drivers where allowed.
- Taxi & transfers (€15-60 depending on origin) - Taxis and pre-booked transfers are common for airport pickups and hotel drop-offs. They’re convenient for late arrivals or travelling with luggage, but cost more than trains/buses.
- Car hire (€30-70/day) - A car is very useful in Calabria for exploring coastal roads and inland villages - distances are short but public services are thinner outside summer. Fuel and tolls are additional costs to factor in.
- Boat & excursions (€15-40 typical excursions) - Day-boat trips and coastal excursions depart from nearby ports (Tropea) in summer - good for beaches and island hopping; book locally for current schedules and prices.
