Restauradores Square

Restauradores Square (Praça dos Restauradores) is a historic city square in central Lisbon that commemorates Portugal’s restoration of independence in 1640. The square is defined by a tall commemorative obelisk and surrounding 19th- and 20th-century buildings.

The focal point is the obelisk set in the centre of the plaza, and the square is flanked by hotels, cafés and the entrance to the long tree-lined Avenida da Liberdade. The area is a common arrival point for visitors moving between the downtown Rossio district and the Avenida.

The space was developed as Lisbon expanded in the 19th century and has long served as a civic and transport hub in the historic centre. It has been a focal point for parades, public gatherings and urban circulation.

Restauradores Square sits between Rossio and Avenida da Liberdade in central Lisbon, within walking distance of the Baixa and Chiado neighbourhoods.
