Rempart de Bellecombe is the escarpment and viewpoint on Réunion island that forms part of the rim overlooking the Enclos Fouqué caldera of Piton de la Fournaise. It is one of the island’s principal vantage points for observing the volcano’s caldera and recent lava fields.
Visitors can use the parking and viewing platforms at the rim to look into the caldera, read interpretive panels and begin marked hikes. Several maintained trails descend from the rim into the Enclos Fouqué or follow the caldera rim for panoramic views.
The escarpment is a volcanic structure associated with the Piton de la Fournaise volcanic complex and is part of a dynamic landscape shaped by repeated eruptions. The location is managed to balance visitor access with safety and conservation of fragile volcanic surfaces.
Rempart de Bellecombe lies within the eastern part of Réunion island’s highlands and is accessed by road from the island’s central plateau and the village of Bourg-Murat.

Rempart de Bellecombe is on the RN3 road toward the Cirque de Mafate and is accessible by car from Saint-Denis or other Réunion towns. From the village of Dos d’Âne, follow signage to the viewpoint; some parking is available nearby. The viewpoint is also a trailhead for hikes into the cirque.
