Rebun Island is a small island off the northern tip of Hokkaido, Japan, celebrated for its summer wildflowers and coastal scenery. The island is part of the Rishiri-Rebun-Sarobetsu National Park and combines low cliffs, coastal meadows and rugged headlands.

Hiking routes and day trails traverse the island, with a number of short ridge walks and shoreline paths that showcase endemic alpine flora adapted to the cool maritime climate. The highest ground offers wide views over the Sea of Japan and toward neighbouring Rishiri Island.

The island has been used for fishing and small-scale agriculture; more recently it has become a destination for botanical tourism and seasonal hiking. Facilities are concentrated in small villages and at the ferry port used by visitors.

Rebun sits off northern Hokkaido and is reached by regular ferry services from the city of Wakkanai; the crossing is commonly used by tourists visiting the northern islands.

  • Flora and seasonality: Known as the "island of flowers," the island is famed for its summer display of alpine and coastal flowering plants that attract botanists and hikers.
  • Access: Regular ferries connect the island with Wakkanai on Hokkaido; crossings typically take around 1.5 hours depending on the vessel and conditions.
