How to Get to Ranau#
Ranau is inland from Kota Kinabalu in Sabah and is best reached by road from Kota Kinabalu International Airport (BKI). Regular minivan and bus services serve the route; private transfers are convenient for groups or luggage.
Kota Kinabalu International Airport (BKI): The main gateway to Sabah is Kota Kinabalu International Airport (BKI). From BKI travel to Ranau by road: public buses or minivans and private transfers run the route via Tamparuli and Ranau; journey time is approximately 1.5-2.5 hours depending on service and traffic. Minivan fares are commonly in the RM 25-40 range; private transfers cost more.
Sandakan / Tawau (regional airports): Sandakan (SDK) and Tawau (TWU) are further afield and not convenient for Ranau; they are useful if you plan a wider Sabah itinerary but result in longer ground travel to reach Ranau.
Train: There is no intercity passenger rail service in Sabah connecting to Ranau.

- Car Hire (RM 120-300 per day) - Hiring a car gives maximum freedom to explore Ranau, Kinabalu Park and nearby attractions. Roads are generally in good condition; driving provides flexibility for early starts and remote viewpoints.
