Qubbet el-Hawa is a cliff-side necropolis on the west bank of the Nile near Aswan, Egypt, composed of rock-cut tombs of local elites and officials. The site preserves reliefs, inscriptions and decorated burial chambers carved into a sandstone bluff.
The most notable features are the carved tombs and their decorated façades and interior chambers, with inscriptions documenting officials’ titles and expeditions. The site also offers panoramic views across the Nile to Elephantine Island, which are a frequent draw for visitors and photographers.
Tombs at Qubbet el-Hawa date mainly to the Old Kingdom and Middle Kingdom periods of ancient Egypt; some individual tombs are associated with well-documented officials from those eras. Archaeological work has recorded inscriptions and funerary decoration that illuminate regional administration and Nile trade.
The necropolis sits on the west bank of the Nile just upstream of modern Aswan, immediately across the river from Elephantine Island and close to the town of Aswan.
