The Pyramid of Unas is a small Old Kingdom pyramid located at Saqqara that dates to the reign of Pharaoh Unas at the end of Egypt’s Fifth Dynasty. It is especially important archaeologically because its internal chambers preserve the earliest known Pyramid Texts.
The structure comprises a modest outer pyramid and an underground burial complex reached by descending passages. The burial chambers are notable for the carved hieroglyphic spells and ritual inscriptions that later influenced New Kingdom funerary traditions.
Built as part of the royal necropolis near Memphis, the pyramid formed the centre of a funerary complex including a mortuary temple and causeway, and sits among other step and true pyramids at Saqqara. Its small external size contrasts with the significance of its inscribed interior.
The pyramid is situated in the Saqqara necropolis on the desert edge south of modern Cairo, within the wider archaeological landscape associated with ancient Memphis.

Once at the Saqqara site the Pyramid of Unas is a short walk from the visitor entrance among the cluster of smaller Old Kingdom pyramids and tombs.
