How to Get to Purmerend

Purmerend is easiest reached via Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AMS) with frequent rail connections into the town. The NS Sprinter network serves Purmerend from Amsterdam, Zaandam and Hoorn; regional buses cover shorter or more local journeys.

By Air

Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AMS): Schiphol is the nearest major international airport and the most practical arrival point for Purmerend. From Schiphol you can take the NS train to Amsterdam Centraal (about 15-20 minutes, single ticket around €5-€6) and then a Sprinter to Purmerend (about 25 minutes, single ticket around €4-€5); total rail journey ~45-55 minutes. Taxis from Schiphol to Purmerend take about 25-40 minutes and typically cost €45-€70 depending on traffic.

Rotterdam The Hague Airport (RTM): RTM is a smaller international airport and is farther from Purmerend. By rail the journey requires at least one change (usually at Rotterdam Centraal and Amsterdam) and takes roughly 1h30-1h50; expect a single-journey rail fare in the €18-€28 range. Taxis or private transfers from RTM will take around 1h20-1h40 and cost significantly more than from Schiphol.

By Train & Bus
