Pundaquit is a coastal village and tourism launch point in San Antonio municipality, Zambales, Philippines, known for its role as the gateway to nearby islands and coves along the Zambales coast. The village supports boat services, lodging, and beach-oriented activities.
From Pundaquit visitors take short boat trips to nearby destinations such as Capones Island, Anawangin Cove, and Nagsasa Cove for swimming, snorkeling, hiking, and camping. Anawangin and Nagsasa are especially noted for their ash-and-sand beaches and sheltered anchorages created after the 1991 eruption of Mount Pinatubo. Local operators run day trips as well as overnight camping packages.
Pundaquit developed as a small fishing community and later expanded its services as island-hopping tourism grew in the late 20th and early 21st centuries. The area’s beaches and access to nearby islands have made it a popular domestic and international low-impact tourism destination.
Pundaquit sits on the western coast of Luzon in Zambales province, on the South China Sea side of San Antonio town. It is roughly 200-250 kilometers northwest of Metro Manila by road, a drive of several hours depending on traffic and route.
- Best time to go: Most boat trips run from November to April during the dry season; sea conditions can limit access in the rainy months and during typhoons.
- Travel logistics: Day trips to nearby islands are typically 20-60 minutes by bangka (outrigger boat); multi-day camping at Anawangin or Nagsasa is a common option for visitors.
