Pszczyna Castle is a historic ducal residence in the town of Pszczyna, Silesian Voivodeship, southern Poland, with medieval origins and major 19th-century remodelling; it now functions as a state museum.

The ensemble includes a main palace block with preserved princely apartments and period interiors, a landscaped park directly adjacent to the castle, and surviving service buildings. The museum collection focuses on aristocratic furnishings, textiles and decorative arts assembled by the region’s former owners.

The site evolved from a medieval stronghold into a Renaissance and Baroque residence and later underwent extensive 19th-century reconstruction under the Hochberg/Pless family; after World War II the property became state-owned and was converted for public display.

The castle sits on the eastern side of Pszczyna town beside the market square and the town park, within the Silesian lowlands and roughly south of the Katowice urban area.

• Central town location: Located on the town’s market side, the castle is accessed easily on foot from Pszczyna’s central square.
• Museum use: The palace interiors are exhibited as a state museum showing aristocratic apartments and household collections rather than a working residence.

What to See#

• Main Castle (palace): Principal palace block containing the state rooms and museum displays of furniture and decorative arts dating from the 17th to 19th centuries.
• Pszczyna Park: Landscape park directly adjoining the castle, laid out from 18th century and providing the principal public approach to the palace.
• Outbuildings and stables: Series of preserved service and outbuildings around the palace complex that form part of the historic ensemble.

Pszczyna is about 30 km south of Katowice and well connected by regional trains and buses. From Katowice, take a regional train toward Bielsko-Biała and change for local connections to Pszczyna, or drive via the A1/E75 (exit signs to Pszczyna). The castle is within easy walking distance from the town centre.

• Take the guided interiors tour - it's the best way to see the preserved Biedermeier rooms and the Vienna-style ballroom.
• Allow time to stroll the English-style Pszczyna Park behind the castle; winter and spring light in the park is often overlooked.
• If visiting on a Sunday, check for organ concerts or classical recitals - the castle hosts regular cultural events.
