Prospect State Scenic Viewpoint sits beside OR‑62 (Crater Lake Highway) near the small community of Prospect in southern Oregon. The site is easiest reached by car: from Medford drive east on OR‑62 for roughly 30 miles (about 40-50 minutes) and follow local signage to Prospect and the viewpoint; there is roadside parking at the turnout and only a short walk to the overlook. Public transit in this rural area is very limited, so private vehicle is the most reliable option.

Tips for Visiting Prospect State Scenic Viewpoint

  • Visit at sunrise or late afternoon for the best light on the Rogue River canyon and far fewer visitors than midday; these times also make photography of the rock faces and mist in the valley much more rewarding.
