Prasats Suor Prat
Temple
Along Angkor Thom’s east causeway, the Suor Prat towers form a row of small sandstone pavilions linked to historic royal functions; visitors photograph the columns and study Khmer architectural detail.
Prasats Suor Prat are a sequence of eight small sandstone towers located on the eastern side of the Royal Square inside Angkor Thom, near the Baphuon and the Royal Palace in Siem Reap. The towers were erected in the late 12th century during the reign of King Jayavarman VII.
They form a distinctive architectural ensemble directly facing the central royal precinct and are notable for their regular spacing and simple, compact form. The precise original function of the towers is not definitively known, but their position makes them a conspicuous feature of the Angkor Thom royal complex.
Constructed of sandstone and laterite, the towers remain a frequent stop on circuits of Angkor’s monuments because of their proximity to the main palace buildings and the Bayon.

How to Get to Prasats Suor Prat #
The Prasats Suor Prat towers are inside Angkor Thom in the Angkor Archaeological Park near the Royal Palace complex. Tips for Visiting Prasats Suor Prat #
- Visit Prasats Suor Prat in the mid-to-late afternoon when softer light makes the line of towers more photogenic and the surrounding Royal Square is quieter than at morning peak times.
- Approach from the Royal Palace/Terrace of the Elephants side to see how the towers sit within the royal complex; many visitors hurry past without taking the short detour to view them from the square's raised terraces.
- Combine the stop with nearby Angkor Thom monuments-Suor Prat is best appreciated in context, so leave time to walk the adjacent terraces rather than treating it as a quick photo stop.
