Prasat Suor Prat
Archaeological Site Group of sandstone towers flanking Angkor Thom's royal square.
East of Angkor Thom, Prasat Suor Prat consists of a line of small stone towers from the Angkor period. Angkor circuit visitors examine the towers for their symmetry, stonework and position within the royal enclosure.
Prasat Suor Prat is a line of small towers located on the eastern edge of the Royal Square inside Angkor Thom in the Angkor Archaeological Park, Siem Reap province, Cambodia. The group consists of a dozen compact stone towers built in the late 12th to early 13th century during the reign of Jayavarman VII.
The towers are constructed of laterite and sandstone and stand in a regular alignment that marks the eastern boundary of the royal ceremonial space; they sit immediately north of the Terrace of the Elephants. The towers are notable for their uniform spacing and paired design, forming a visible architectural rhythm along the square.
Historical records and modern scholarship link the constructions to the urban renewal under Jayavarman VII; their precise ceremonial function is debated but they are clearly part of the planned layout of Angkor Thom’s central precincts. Over time the towers have weathered and been conserved as part of the greater Angkor site.
The site lies within Angkor Thom in the Angkor Archaeological Park, north of the town of Siem Reap in northwestern Cambodia, and is visited as part of the main Angkor circuit.
