Today the archaeological park presents exposed foundations, reconstructed sections of the monumental gate, visible remains of the defensive system and an amphitheatre. Porolissum was established around 106 AD and was occupied during the Antonine and Severan periods when the frontier system in this region was active. Archaeological work over the 20th and 21st centuries has documented its military architecture and civilian layout.
