Baltic Coast (Gdańsk, Sopot, Gdynia, Hel Peninsula)
May usually offers the best early-season coastal weather: warmer air, longer daylight and fewer storms, though the Baltic remains brisk. Sopot’s beaches and the wooden pier come alive; weekend crowds start to trickle in but it’s still comfortable for cycling to the Hel Peninsula. Water temperatures rarely exceed the high teens, so swimming is cool but lake-and-beach combos work well if you also visit the Masurian lakes. Pack a light sweater for evenings and a rain jacket for short showers.
Masurian Lakes & Warmia (Giżycko, Olsztyn, Mikołajki)
Early summer typically offers the region’s most comfortable weather: June brings long sunny days suitable for sailing, with highs regularly in the low to mid-20s. Lakeside festivals and regattas pick up, and tourist services for boat hire and guided lake tours are in full swing. Rain showers can still interrupt a day on the water, so a lightweight waterproof jacket is useful. Book popular cabins and marinas ahead for weekends.
Central Lowlands & Warsaw Region (Warsaw, Łódź, Białobrzegi)
Early summer brings June warmth - pleasant but sometimes humid, with longer evenings ideal for exploring Old Town squares and rooftop bars. Afternoon thunderstorms become more frequent as the month progresses, occasionally heavy and producing hail in isolated storms particularly to the south near Łódź. Tourist numbers rise but remain lower than coastal and mountain hotspots. Pack a travel umbrella and be ready to shift outdoor plans at short notice.
Greater Poland & Western Lowlands (Poznań, Wrocław, Zielona Góra)
Early summer brings warmer, settled weather: June is usually pleasant for riverside cafés and walking Ostrów Tumski in Wrocław, though humidity rises compared with spring. Thunderstorms begin to appear toward month’s end, sometimes heavy and producing short-lived urban flooding in poorly drained streets. This is a good time for cycling the flat countryside before the full heat of July. Carry waterproof layers for sudden storms.
Silesia & Lesser Poland Lowlands (Kraków, Katowice, Ojców)
Early summer delivers warm, pleasant June weather: Kraków and Katowice enjoy long, sunny days with moderate humidity and the first sustained warm spells. Thunderstorms begin to occur in the afternoons or evenings, particularly as air masses rise from the Carpathians, and these can be intense with hail in some cells. It’s a lively time for outdoor concerts and city plazas, but carry a small umbrella for sudden rain. Comfortable shoes are ideal for cobbled streets.
Carpathian & Tatra Mountains (Zakopane, Tatra National Park, Bieszczady)
Early summer brings safer hiking conditions: June usually sees most valley routes snow-free and wildflowers carpeting meadows on the lower slopes of the Tatras and Bieszczady. Weather can change quickly - mornings may be calm and sunny while afternoon storms with thunder are common, particularly in July. Mountain refuges open and day-hikers increase in number; weekends can be busy on popular trails like the route to Morskie Oko. Bring layered clothing, rain gear and start hikes early to avoid afternoon storms.
