Baltic Coast (Gdańsk, Sopot, Gdynia, Hel Peninsula)

Early summer brings long sunny days and moderating winds - June sees pleasant 18-22°C highs along Gdańsk and Gdynia, though sudden thundery showers can pop up inland. The coastal towns are gearing up for high season: hotels fill, and the narrow streets of Sopot can be busy on warm nights. Sea breezes make the coast more comfortable than inland heat, but bring a jacket for evening ferries. It’s a fine time for walking the cliffs and visiting the amber shops without peak crowds.

Masurian Lakes & Warmia (Giżycko, Olsztyn, Mikołajki)

Midsummer is peak season - July sees warm, humid afternoons and the deepest blue skies that make the lakes irresistible for swimming and boating. Crowds swell at Giżycko’s marina and on popular lake beaches, and late-evening mosquitoes can be persistent near reeds. Thunderstorms sometimes form in the heat and can bring strong winds that make smaller boat crossings choppy. Bring sun protection, repellant, and flexible plans for sudden storms.

Central Lowlands & Warsaw Region (Warsaw, Łódź, Białobrzegi)

Midsummer is the warmest time: July sees regular highs in the mid-20s and sometimes low 30s during heat waves, making city parks and riverbanks popular escapes. Storms can be sudden and intense, producing flash flooding in low-lying streets and temporary Metro delays - check local apps for transit updates. Museums and performance venues offer cool refuges during heat peaks; sunscreen and light clothing are essential. Consider booking indoor attractions in the afternoons when storms are likeliest.

Greater Poland & Western Lowlands (Poznań, Wrocław, Zielona Góra)

Midsummer in the west is warm and occasionally hot - July can bring temperatures into the high 20s and rare spikes into the low 30s, particularly inland near Poznań. Summer festivals keep cities lively, and evenings are great for outdoor dining, but storms can be dramatic with hail in isolated cells. Tourist pressure is moderate compared with mountains and coast, so central hotels often have availability. Sun protection and a small umbrella are useful.

Silesia & Lesser Poland Lowlands (Kraków, Katowice, Ojców)

Midsummer is the high tourist season: July is warm to hot with the likelihood of humid afternoons and evening storms that occasionally disrupt trains and regional roads. Kraków becomes busy, particularly around the Main Square and Kazimierz, so book central accommodation early. Hiking in the nearby Beskids is pleasant in the mornings before thunder develops. Use sunscreen, light clothing, and be prepared to change outdoor plans for storm warnings.

Carpathian & Tatra Mountains (Zakopane, Tatra National Park, Bieszczady)

Midsummer is high season for trekking and climbing: July has long daylight and warm valley temperatures, but nights at altitude remain cool; expect daytime highs in the low 20s in Zakopane and much colder at higher elevations. Thunderstorms develop predictably in the afternoons with lightning risk that makes exposed ridgelines dangerous; guided climbs and checking mountain forecasts are recommended. Book mountain huts ahead for popular routes and carry a waterproof and spare warm layers.
