Place des Terreaux is in Lyon’s Presqu’île next to the Hôtel de Ville. Take Lyon Metro to Hôtel de Ville-Louis Pradel (metro lines A and C) - the square is immediately adjacent (a few steps from the station exits) and easily reached on foot from Rue de la République. It’s in the city centre, so driving/parking is restricted; many buses and trams serve the nearby rue de la République.

• Go first thing on a weekday morning to enjoy the Bartholdi fountain and Hôtel de Ville façade with far fewer crowds and better photo light.
• Use the Hôtel de Ville - Louis Pradel metro stop to drop you right at the square; approach from Place de la Comédie to avoid the busiest tourist flows from Vieux Lyon.
• Take a moment to look up at the ornate façades of the Musée des Beaux-Arts and Hôtel de Ville - many visitors focus on the fountain and miss those architectural details.
