Place de la Carrière is a large rectangular 18th-century square in Nancy, Grand Est, forming part of the planned civic ensemble with Place Stanislas and Place d’Alliance. It was designed as a formal parade ground and urban thoroughfare.

The square is notable for its long, regular façades and the plane-tree-lined central space that historically served ceremonial and equestrian purposes. It provides a broad axial view that complements the adjoining squares.

Established in the mid-1700s under Duke Stanisław Leszczyński and the work of Emmanuel Héré, the square was part of the same urban redesign that produced Place Stanislas. Its layout and façades date from that period.

It lies in Nancy’s historic centre, close to Place Stanislas in the Grand Est region of northeastern France.

Place de la Carrière is part of Nancy’s historic core near Place Stanislas. From Nancy-Ville rail station it is an easy 10-15 minute walk into the pedestrianised centre; several local STAN bus routes also stop close to Place Stanislas and Place de la Carrière.

• Visit Place de la Carrière in late afternoon or at sunset when the long tree-lined promenade is most atmospheric and less crowded than Place Stanislas.
• Walk the full length of the square to appreciate the axial relationship with Place Stanislas and the surrounding classical façades - the scale and tree alignment are the features many visitors overlook.
• Combine the square with a short visit to the nearby Ducal Palace or a guided walking tour of Nancy's Enlightenment-era planning to better understand how Place de la Carrière fits into the city's UNESCO ensemble.
