Pinara is an ancient Lycian city in Muğla Province in southwestern Turkey, noted for its rock-cut tombs and ruined classical city plan. It lies inland on a limestone plateau and contains remains from the Iron Age through the Roman period.
The site features a stone theatre, a prominent necropolis with numerous rock-cut tomb façades, an acropolis on higher ground and remnants of streets and public buildings. Archaeological layers show occupation and rebuilding across the classical and Hellenistic periods and into Roman times.
Pinara sits above a valley in western Anatolia and was an inland centre of the Lycian region; today its ruins are accessed from local roads serving sites across Muğla Province.
