Piața Unirii

Piața Unirii is a central public square in Bucharest and one of the city’s main urban nodes, known for its large fountain complex and major transport connections. It functions as a focal point linking several main streets and public spaces.

A broad open plaza with a sequence of large circular and rectangular fountains forms the visual centre; the area around the square contains retail, municipal buildings and the large shopping complex historically known as the Unirea shopping centre. The square is also a primary metro and tram interchange for the city.

The square acquired its current arrangement and scale through 20th-century urban redevelopment and has since been a major site for civic movement, commerce and public gatherings in Bucharest.

Piața Unirii sits in central Bucharest on the banks of the Dâmbovița corridor and functions as the junction between the historic centre and wider boulevards and transport routes.
