Penulisan Temple

Bukit Penulisan lies close to the town of Kintamani, on a road that runs straight down to Bali’s capital, Denpasar. Also known as Bukit Tunggal, it straddles regions in both northern and southern Bali. Among its treasures is a figurine of Narecwar, a combined depiction of the god Siva and the goddess Parwati.

Penulisan is about 30 minutes from the airport in Denpasar and can be reached by local bemo or taxi. The best months to visit run from March to November, with Kintamani as the nearest town.

A temple known as Tegeh Koripan was built on the peak many centuries ago and is more commonly called Pura Pucak Penulisan. Nearby lies Sukawana, a traditional settlement that lays claim to being one of the oldest villages in Bali. Ruins and ancient statues surround the temples, where worshippers still pray at the shrines for good health, fertility and safety.
