Tips for Visiting Palo Verde National Park
- Visit during the dry season (roughly December-April) and plan a sunrise or late-afternoon boat trip on the Tempisque River-low water concentrates birds and other wildlife and the light is best for viewing and photography.
- Book a guided boat safari or ranger-led excursion rather than trying to explore the floodplain on your own; guides know the best sections of the river for wildlife and will get you closer without disturbing animals.
- Access is easiest from towns along the Tempisque (ask locally in Bagaces or near Las Juntas) and weekdays outside local holiday periods tend to be much quieter than weekend and holiday mornings when domestic visitors arrive.
