Palau Güell
Monument Gaudí-designed mansion in Barcelona showcasing Modernisme
Palau Güell in Barcelona, designed by Antoni Gaudí, features forged‑iron gates, richly decorated interiors and a rooftop of sculpted chimneys; visitors tour for an early example of Gaudí’s urban work in El Raval.
Palau Güell is a late 19th-century city mansion in Barcelona designed by architect Antoni Gaudí and commissioned by industrialist Eusebi Güell. Construction took place in the late 1880s and the building is included in the UNESCO World Heritage listing for Gaudí’s works.
The interior highlights include a richly decorated central reception hall and ornate ironwork throughout the façades and interior. Visitors frequently note the rooftop composed of multiple decorative chimneys and ventilation towers, and the compact service and stables area at street level. The building sits on Carrer Nou de la Rambla close to La Rambla, making it accessible on foot from Barcelona’s historic centre.
Gaudí designed Palau Güell between 1886 and 1888 for Eusebi Güell as a private urban palace and reception house. Over time the mansion has been restored and adapted for public access and museum use while preserving Gaudí’s original layout and decorative schemes.
The palace stands in the El Raval / Ciutat Vella area of central Barcelona, a short walk from Plaça de Catalunya and the main La Rambla thoroughfare. It is within the dense urban fabric of Barcelona’s old town and easy to reach by metro and bus.
- Tickets: Timed-entry tickets are commonly required; the building is compact so guided tours and time slots are often used to manage visitor flow.

- Stables / service floor: A ground-floor service area and former stables that originally served horse-drawn carriages and deliveries to the residence.
