Palácio da Bolsa

Palácio da Bolsa is a 19th century former stock exchange and headquarters of Porto’s Commercial Association, located in the historic centre of Porto. Construction began in the mid 19th century on the site of a former convent and the building became a focal point for commercial and civic ceremonies.

Interior highlights include richly decorated ceremonial suites and the famed Arab Room, a Moorish Revival reception hall used for state functions. Visitors typically view ornate carved staircases, painted ceilings, and wood- and plaster-work in the main reception areas.

The palace was built by the Associação Comercial do Porto during the 1800s to serve as a center for trade and civic events, with interiors completed across the 19th century to reflect the citys growing commercial importance. Over time it has hosted official receptions and continues to be used for ceremonial functions and guided visits.

The building stands in Porto’s historic centre near the Douro River and the Ribeira district, within the broader UNESCO World Heritage area of Porto. It is a short walk from the riverside and from central transport hubs.
