Reservoir Central New York lake, part of the Finger Lakes

Owasco Lake is one of the Finger Lakes in central New York, located in Cayuga County immediately south of the city of Auburn. It is a long, narrow glacial lake typical of the Finger Lakes region.
The lake is used for recreation including boating and fishing, and supports local shoreline communities and small marinas. Water quality and shoreline management are important local concerns because of residential development and agricultural land in the watershed.
Formed by glacial carving during the last Ice Age, the basin has the steep-sided shape characteristic of Finger Lakes. Over time the lakeshore has been developed with homes, parks, and small harbors concentrated at the lake’s ends.
