Ostrów Lednicki

Ostrów Lednicki is an island archaeological site in Lake Lednica in Greater Poland Voivodeship, Poland, notable for early medieval remains associated with the Piast dynasty. The island preserves foundations and reconstructions of a ducal stronghold and religious buildings dating to the 10th and 11th centuries.

The remains and reconstructions of a palatium or ducal residence, a small rotunda chapel linked to early Christian worship in Poland, and interpretation panels and displays that explain the site’s role during state formation. The site is managed as an archaeological park with visitor facilities and displays.

Excavations have shown the island functioned as a political and religious centre in the early Piast period; finds from the site illustrate construction techniques and liturgical practices from the time. The island is integrated into local heritage programming and conservation.
