Osan Travel Guide
City City in Gyeonggi-do, near Seoul
Osan hums around a long-established air base and commuter hubs; visitors note American influences, duty-free shopping, solid Korean barbecue and fast trains into Seoul.
Why Visit Osan? #
A short trip from Seoul, Osan is known for its strong military presence and approachable small-city vibe, drawing visitors interested in aviation history and cross-cultural exchange. Osan Air Base and nearby aviation-related events provide a unique backdrop, while local markets and Korean barbecue joints offer lively food experiences. The city’s compact scale and regular transport links make it an easy base for exploring Gyeonggi Province without staying in the capital.
Who's Osan For?
Osan’s Songtan district is known for lively nightlife geared toward the US air base crowd - bars, late-night fried chicken joints and karaoke spots line the streets near Camp Humphreys. It’s loud, social and wallet-friendly.
Songtan and Osan serve robust Korean comfort food: grilled meats, hearty stews and street snacks around the flea markets. Local family restaurants and pojangmacha stalls are inexpensive and open late after the bars close.
With the nearby US bases and logistics services, Osan supports plenty of short-stay business travel - affordable guesthouses, meeting rooms and transport into Seoul or Suwon make it practical for defence-related contractors and suppliers.
If you prefer low-key dates, Osan’s quieter parks, cafes and riverside walks offer simple outings away from the Songtan night scene. It’s not a luxury getaway but has comfortable mid-range restaurants for an easy evening together.

How to Get to Osan
Osan is served indirectly by Seoul's two main airports (Incheon International, Gimpo) and directly by Korail commuter trains at Osan Station. Arrivals by air usually link into Seoul's rail or intercity bus network, then continue to Osan by Line 1 commuter trains or express buses.
Incheon International Airport (ICN): From Incheon you can take the Airport Railroad (AREX) to Seoul Station and then transfer to Korail Line 1 to reach Osan Station; the AREX all-stop journey to Seoul Station is typically about 45-60 minutes (AREX all-stop fare ~4,750 KRW) and the Line 1 trip from Seoul to Osan is about 40-60 minutes (see Korail fares below). There are also direct airport limousine/express buses that serve routes toward Gyeonggi Province; a direct bus to Osan or nearby Suwon typically takes 70-100 minutes and fares are commonly in the 10,000-15,000 KRW range depending on the service and luggage.
Gimpo Airport (GMP): Gimpo is much closer to the Seoul metropolitan rail network and is served by AREX and several Seoul subway lines. Take AREX or the subway to Seoul Station (about 20-30 minutes) then transfer to Korail Line 1 for the 40-60 minute ride to Osan Station; combined fares within the metro area are typically lower than trips starting at Incheon (single-trip metro/AREX segment ~1,350 KRW, then Korail fare dependent on distance).
Train: Osan Station (오산역) is on the Gyeongbu Line and is served by Seoul Subway Line 1 commuter trains and Korail services; the trip from Seoul Station to Osan by commuter/metro trains usually takes around 40-60 minutes. Local commuter fares within the Seoul metropolitan area typically start around 1,250-1,350 KRW and rise with distance for Korail services (use a T-money card for transfers and discounts). Note that high-speed KTX/SRT services do not normally stop at Osan, so expect to use regular Korail/metro trains.
Bus: Intercity and express buses call at Osan Express Bus Terminal (오산공용버스터미널) with frequent services from Seoul terminals (Nambu/Express Bus Terminal, Gangnam area) and other regional cities; journeys from Seoul are commonly 50-80 minutes depending on traffic. Fares for express/intercity buses to Osan are typically in the 6,000-10,000 KRW range; local city buses inside Osan use a metro-style flat/zone fare (around 1,200-1,500 KRW) and accept T-money.
How to Get Around Osan
Getting around Osan is straightforward: Korail Line 1 commuter trains are the best option for regional trips to and from Seoul, while express/intercity buses and taxis cover gaps and off-peak hours. For short trips inside town the local bus network is cheap and reliable, but taxis are faster and more convenient for luggage or late-night travel.
- Korail Line 1 & commuter trains (1,250-3,000 KRW) - Osan Station (오산역) and nearby Seojeongri Station connect the city to Seoul via Korail Line 1 and Gyeongbu Line commuter services. Trains are the most reliable way to reach Seoul-area hubs during peak hours; expect 40-60 minutes to central Seoul by regular commuter trains. Use a T-money card for seamless transfers and watch whether a train is an all-stop or an express local, as express services skip smaller stations.
- Intercity & express buses (6,000-10,000 KRW) - Buses run to Osan Express Bus Terminal from Seoul's main bus terminals and regional cities; journey time depends heavily on traffic but commonly sits between 50 and 90 minutes from Seoul. Express buses are comfortable and drop you close to the city centre - fares are typically 6,000-10,000 KRW - and are a good option if you have luggage or are traveling outside rail service hours.
- Local city buses (1,200-1,500 KRW) - Osan's local buses cover the city and nearby districts with frequent day services; routes converge on the bus terminal and major transfer points near Osan Station. Single-ride fares are in the range of 1,200-1,500 KRW and T-money cards are accepted; buses are economical but can be slower than taxis for point-to-point trips with many stops.
- Taxi & ride-hailing (KakaoTaxi) (3,800-20,000 KRW) - Taxis are plentiful and useful for door-to-door travel, late nights, or when carrying luggage; use the KakaoTaxi app for easier booking and fare estimates. Expect a base fare around 3,800-4,000 KRW for short rides within the city and higher rates for airport transfers or jumbo/black taxis; traffic can add significant time during rush hours.
- Walking - Osan's downtown is compact and walkable - many shops, restaurants and the main bus/rail hubs are within easy walking distance of one another. Walking is the easiest way to explore the city centre and discover local markets and eateries; bring comfortable shoes and an umbrella in rainy seasons.
