How to Get to Oregon Badlands Wilderness
The Oregon Badlands Wilderness is reached from the Bend/Redmond area via Highway 20 and local county roads; several trailheads and parking areas on BLM roads give access to the wilderness. A high-clearance vehicle is recommended for many access tracks.
Tips for Visiting Oregon Badlands Wilderness
- Start hikes early to avoid afternoon winds and to maximize wildlife viewing-pronghorn and sagebrush birds are active at dawn.
- Carry a detailed BLM map-cell service is spotty and tracks can look similar on the ground.
- Respect temporary livestock restrictions; parts of the wilderness are also grazing allotments and may have cattle present.
