The stadium contains a football pitch surrounded by an athletics track and a large spectator bowl, and it is used for university and national sporting events and ceremonies. The design follows the broader campus masterplan and integrates with surrounding plazas and university buildings.
Designed as part of Carlos Raúl Villanueva’s masterplan for the University City in the mid-20th century, the stadium was created to serve university athletics and public sporting events and has since remained a principal sports venue for Caracas.
