Odeonsplatz

Odeonsplatz is a central public square in Munich, Bavaria, framed by major 17th to 19th century buildings and formal open space. It functions as a civic and ceremonial space in the historic core of the city.

The square is dominated by the classical colonnade of the Feldherrnhalle, the yellow Baroque facade of the Theatinerkirche, and the nearby Residenz and Hofgarten, all within a few dozen meters. Pedestrians use the square as a junction between the avenues of the old city and the pedestrian zones that lead south to Marienplatz.

Developed in the 19th century as part of Ludwigstrasse and the Neoclassical redesign of central Munich, the site has been a focal point for public events and processions. The square’s surrounding façades reflect Munich’s historic civic and religious architecture.

Odeonsplatz sits in central Munich, adjacent to the Hofgarten and a short walk north of Marienplatz. It is directly accessible by the Odeonsplatz U-Bahn station and lies at the northern terminus of Ludwigstrasse.
