How to Get to Obuasi#
Obuasi is best reached by road from Kumasi (the nearest commercial airport and regional hub). Intercity tro-tros and buses are common, while private taxis or transfers provide faster door-to-door travel.
Kumasi Airport (KMS): Kumasi (KMS) is the nearest commercial airport to Obuasi. From Kumasi airport or city centre, Obuasi is about a 45-75 minute drive depending on traffic (taxi fares vary; private transfers from Kumasi city typically cost GHS 80-200). Domestic flights to Kumasi operate from Accra and other hubs.
Kotoka International Airport, Accra (ACC): For international arrivals, fly to Accra and continue by domestic flight to Kumasi or by road to Obuasi (road transfer from Accra to Obuasi is longer - about 3-4 hours by car or bus).
Train: Ghana’s passenger rail network is limited and not a primary option for reaching Obuasi.
Bus: Intercity buses and shared trotro minibuses connect Obuasi with Kumasi and Accra. Buses from Kumasi to Obuasi are frequent and take under 2 hours; trotro fares are inexpensive but expect basic comfort and occasional crowding.
