How to Get to Nivå#
Nivå is a coastal town on Zealand north of Copenhagen. The town is served by Nivå Station on the Copenhagen-Helsingør (Coast) rail line, making trains the most convenient way to arrive from Copenhagen and other Danish cities.
Copenhagen Airport (CPH): Copenhagen Kastrup is the main international airport serving the Copenhagen area. From CPH you can take regional trains (DSB) to Nivå Station - the train ride to Nivå is about 30-35 minutes.
Malmö Airport (MMX): Across the Øresund in Sweden, Malmo is an alternative for some flights; you then cross the Øresund by train via Hyllie/Malmö and change at Copenhagen central stations - total travel time to Nivå will generally be 60-90 minutes depending on connections.
Train: Nivå Station (Nivå St.) is on the Coast Line (Kystbanen) between Helsingør and Copenhagen, served by regional trains (DSB/Regionstog services). Typical journey times: ~30-35 minutes to Copenhagen H, ~10-15 minutes to Helsingør. Ticketing uses the national zone system (Rejsekort or single tickets).
Bus: Local bus services in the area are operated by Movia; buses connect Nivå with nearby villages and suburbs. Buses are useful for short local hops and for reaching places off the rail line; timetables vary by route and time of day.
How to Get Around Nivå#
The Coast Line train is the best way to get to and from Nivå - frequent, fast and reliable. For local travel, combine trains with Movia buses, cycling or short taxi rides for convenience.
- Regional train (Kystbanen) (DKK 30-70) - Trains are frequent and direct to Copenhagen and Helsingør; Nivå Station sits on the line. Trains are the fastest, most reliable option for intercity travel and are integrated with Denmark’s Rejsekort zone system. Expect 30-35 minutes to Copenhagen H.
- Movia bus (DKK 10-40) - Local and regional buses link residential areas and nearby villages not directly served by rail. Useful for first-/last-mile journeys; schedules are less frequent evenings/weekends. Buy tickets with Rejsekort, mobile apps, or on-board where permitted.
- Taxi (DKK 150-300) - Taxis provide door-to-door service but are expensive compared with public transit. Good for luggage, late-night arrivals, or places without frequent bus service. Fares are metered; carry a card or cash.
- Bicycle - Denmark is very cycle-friendly; local roads and paths make cycling a pleasant option for short to medium distances. Many residents use bikes for commuting; check for bike rental shops in town during tourist season.
- Car - Driving is straightforward with good road links to Copenhagen and Helsingør. Parking may be limited in the town centre at peak times; rental cars give freedom to explore the North Zealand coast. Watch local parking rules.
- Walking - Nivå is compact and walkable for daily errands and seaside promenades. Walking is pleasant and often faster than short bus trips; bring weather-appropriate clothing outside summer months.
