Nimrod Castle, also known as Qal’at al-Subeiba, is a large medieval fortress on the southern slopes of Mount Hermon in the Quneitra Governorate. It dates from the 13th century and occupies a strategic rocky ridge overlooking the surrounding plain.
The ruined castle includes long curtain walls, towers and inner strongholds that reflect its role as a military fortress in the medieval Levant. The site is notable for its scale and state of ruin, with substantial masonry surviving across the complex.
Built in the 13th century by regional Muslim rulers to control mountain approaches and communication routes, the fortress was expanded and modified in subsequent centuries before falling into disuse. It has attracted study for its medieval military architecture.
