Nii-jima (Niijima) is a volcanic island in the Izu Islands chain, administered by Tokyo Metropolis. It is known locally for beaches, coastal scenery and marine recreation.
The island’s coastline includes sandy beaches suited to swimming and surfing and accessible coastal trails. Small harbors and ferry connections link it to other Izu Islands and to mainland ports.
The island originated from volcanic activity and features rugged coastal topography with low mountains and cliffs. Local settlements and services are concentrated in a few small villages and the island has seasonal visitor traffic.
Niijima sits in the Philippine Sea as part of the Izu archipelago, south of Honshu. It is reached by regular ferry services from mainland ports and by occasional island flights to nearby airfields.

How to Get to Nii-jima #
Niijima (Nii-jima) is one of the Izu Islands administered by Tokyo. From Tokyo you can reach Niijima by ferry or high-speed passenger boat from the Takeshiba/Tokyo waterfront passenger terminals (boats depart from the Hamamatsuchō/Takeshiba area), or by small regional flights from Chōfu Airport to Niijima Airport. Ferry/flight timetables are seasonal-check Tokai Kisen (and local airlines) for schedules.
