How to Get to Jalapa#
Jalapa (Nueva Segovia) is accessed overland from Managua by long‑distance bus or private vehicle. Nicaragua has no passenger rail network, so plan for a road journey through mountainous terrain.
Augusto C. Sandino International Airport (MGA): Managua is the main international gateway for visiting Jalapa (Nueva Segovia). From Managua the trip by road can be several hours; many travelers use intercity buses or private transfers.
Ocotal / Regional airstrips: There are small airfields in northern Nicaragua (e.g., near Ocotal), but regular commercial services are limited; Managua remains the practical arrival airport for international visitors.
Train: Nicaragua does not operate passenger railways; train travel is not available to Jalapa.
Bus: Long-distance buses and shared taxis run from Managua and regional hubs to Jalapa and other towns in Nueva Segovia. Trip times vary and can be lengthy because of mountainous roads; ticket prices are economical and paid in local currency at departure points.
