New Cathedral (Mariendom), Linz is the Roman Catholic cathedral in Linz dedicated to the Immaculate Conception and commonly known locally as the Mariendom. It was constructed in Gothic revival style over the late 19th and early 20th centuries and is a principal church of the city.
Interior and exterior features include a large nave, Gothic-style detailing and stained glass windows typical of the revival style, and the cathedral is used for diocesan services and major liturgical events. It is a major landmark in Linz’s cityscape.
Construction began in the 1860s and was completed in the early 20th century, replacing the earlier cathedral as the main diocesan church.
The cathedral stands in central Linz, on the banks of the Danube river, and is readily accessible from the city centre.

The New Cathedral (Neuer Dom / Mariendom) is in central Linz near the Hauptplatz. From Linz Hauptbahnhof take the city tram (lines 1 or 2) to Hauptplatz and then walk about 5-10 minutes to the cathedral. By car it’s only a couple of kilometres from the railway station (roughly 5-10 minutes in normal traffic).
